Rationally Speaking: Vaccines do not cause autism

advertisement

"The evidence is in. The scientific community has reached a clear consensus that vaccines don't cause autism. There is no controversy." So begins an in-depth discussion of the vaccines-cause-autism nonsense penned by "SkepDoc" Harriet Hall in a recent issue of eSkeptic. It is a must read for any thinking person who has been baffled by the likes of Jenny McCarthy and her unconscionable sponsors, boyfriend Jim Carrey (who bankrolls McCarthy's dangerous ignorance) and Oprah Winfrey (who provides McCarthy with television time so that she can endanger the lives of even more children).

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

Expect the usual carload of idiots to deny the science and claim that "Big Pharma" has biased the results.

Nevertheless, a nice synopsis of Harriet Hall's investigation into the vaccine-autism scare industry.

This is really criminal. Not only does this deprive individual children of protection but puts all children at risk when these childhood diseases get a new toehold in our communities.

Didn't they find a link between autism and the chemicals in vinyl flooring recently?

With autism and ADD and some of the other ailments that increased in the last couple decades, I am concerned with how much of that is due to redefining the diseases and symptoms until otherwise healthy and normal kids are now being diagnosed with problems.

For example, when I was growing up 30 years ago, being a hyperactive kid was normal especially if the kid was hopped up on sugar cereal and koolaid and other stuff. We used to run around and cause all kinds of havoc and generally act like kids. We got dirty, we skinned knees, we crawled into sewer pipes, we rode bikes in traffic without helmets and generally had a great time.

Nowadays, a similar kid would be said to have diseases and take pills to calm down and quit behaving like we used to. Riding a bike without a helment?

Whoa. Somebody call the feds on that one.

hey... I wonder what the correlation to High Fructose Corn Syrup and autism is. on the surface, autism seems to have been skyrocketing at the same time HFCS use has gone up as well.

I blame the drop in childhood smoking for the rise in autism. Look at how autism has spiked while childhood smoking has declined! Parents, get your kids smoking now if you want to keep them safe.

Then why don't you research it?

    Go to Yahoo.

Type in, "HFCS mercury" and read.

    No thanks necessary.
